When asked, ” what is the biggest tourist attraction in my region and why?” I instantly think of the Calgary Stampede, the largest outdoor show on Earth! It attracts more than a million people each year, it’s a rodeo, exhibition as well as festival. It brings out everyone’s countryside. The Calgary stampede parade lasts approximately 3 hours and even had all of the first responders from the Fort McMurray/ Wood Buffalo municipality there to honour their work they did for the province, not gonna lie I was crying the entire time they marched by and the cheering of the crowd blew away! The ten day long event is full of fun for the whole family and people from around the world flock to the stampede every July! I’m fortunate enough to get the opportunity to go to the stampede every year, last year my family was the Suncor Stampede Family of the year and we got exclusive backstage passes to go behind the chutes and get a tour of what goes into this huge rodeo, we also volunteer at the Suncor Energy Family Day breakfast and fed over 20,000 people each year, My family loves the stampede and all it has to offer.
The Exhibition originated in 1886 but the Stampede started in 1912! That makes the stampede 104 years old. 104 fun and western spirited filled years and many more to come!
